“There
is material enough in a single flower for the ornament of a score of
cathedrals” - John Ruskin
Autumn
is one of my favorite seasons. I
love it because the Florida humidity dissipates and the air starts to
cool. The colors of autumn are so vibrant and alive.
Shades of gold, red, amber, orange and yellow are warm and
inviting. Even though we
don’t really experience the changing of the leaves, we can bring
autumn indoors with all the beautiful fall flowers and leaves available.
Flowers like red rover, fugi and football mums, euphoria, cattails,
gerbera daisies, kangaroo paws, button poms, carnations, snapdragons and
terra cotta roses. Fall
colored oak and maple leaves add beauty to these beautiful flowers.
And let’s not forget wheat, cattails and miniature pumpkins and
gourds for the finishing touch.
I
just wish autumn lasted longer!
Be
sure to order your fall floral arrangements while they are available.
Take a look at all the celebrations in October.
Liven up your home or the home of someone you care about with a
beautiful fall arrangement from Eden Florist.
Have
a wonderful Month!
Warmest Regards,

* The Meaning of
Flowers ~
As every flower lover knows, flowers have
a language of their own. This section is devoted to flowers, their
meanings and brief history.
Marigold ~ “Grief” ~ Botanical
Name: Calendula
Open
afresh your round of starry folds,
ye ardent marigolds!
Dry up the moisture from your golden lips
for
great Apollo bids
That in these days your praises should be sung
for many harps, which he has lately strung
And when again your dewiness he kisses
Tell
him, I have you in my world of blisses
-
John Keats, 1795-1821 -
The
English called this flower “pot marigold” because it was often used
to flavor stews and soups. Marigolds used to have a place in magic as well
as the kitchen. If a young lady wanted to see her beloved, she would
make a concoction of marigold petals, marjoram, thyme and a touch of
wormwood. Simmer it with white wine and virgin honey and apply it
to her stomach, breasts and lips.
In
many regions of Mexico, on All Soul’s Day (November 2) and the day
before, the African Marigold is used to grace the home during ceremonies
to welcome back the soul of a departed family member.
The
Victorians believed they could set the clock by the hour the marigold
opened and closed its colorful petals.
The
name marigold is believed to mean Mary’s gold after the Virgin Mary.
It is believed the marigold signifies grief because the flower’s
petals close mourning the departure of the sun.
